Brightbox profile

Brightbox is Europe's leading Ruby on Rails host and provides virtual dedicated servers optimised for hosting the next generation of Web 2.0 web apps built with the Ruby on Rails framework.

Each Brightbox virtual machine comes with their proven Ruby on Rails stack pre-installed, access to a managed MySQL database cluster and redundant SAN storage. Brightbox also provides Management and Support for large scale applications and dedicated clusters. Brightbox customers include BBC, Channel 4, MTV Europe, Amnesty International and Lastminute.com.

The Brightbox Challenge

Having experienced significant growth during their first 12 months, Brightbox required additional data centre space to accommodate their rapidly expanding business. Investment in first class server technology to deliver robust hosting services demanded an equally robust hosting centre, with resilience built in to all aspects of critical infrastructure, such as power, cooling systems. With Brightbox's commitment to the environment, shown through their recent partnership with Climate Care, it was also necessary for their chosen data centre to show a similar commitment in its operations.

The Solution

IFL, now TelecityGroup provided a dedicated footprint within a secure cage in their 23,000 square ft. facility at Reynolds House, Manchester Technopark. The site has n+1 UPS & generator power protection, non-destructive fire protection systems, 24x7 manned security and technical support, alongside a wide range of flexible bandwidth options and multiple Tier1 network providers. In addition to satisfying Brightbox's immediate rack space needs, IFL, now TelecityGroup were also in a position to guarantee space for future growth having recently exchanged contracts for a new facility of equally high standard to the existing data centre.

Included within the colocation contract are 24x7x365 helpdesk & support services. These services cover response to emergency incidents within 1 hour of the problem being reported. Access to 24x7x365 scheduled engineering services to cover work such as hardware maintenance, server installation & cabling provides an essential on-site extension to the Brightbox in-house support team.

Brightbox Co-founder and Director, Jeremy Jarvis says:
"Our partnership with IFL, now TelecityGroup puts us in a great position to continue our rapid growth and provide an even better service to our customers in terms of resilience, connectivity and security."
